Wave 1 of our Shades of Moonreach Faction is now available to pre-order from our website (the minis go on general sale on 27th September).

Pre-order these now and add anything else you’d like in the mix, and you’ll receive both at the same time. Oh and excitingly, this wave introduces a new Starter Set to our range too…

Never Ending Knights

Three dastardly soldiers comprise this boxset. Knight Marshall Negroli is a Noble leader of the Forgotten King’s army, he summons soldiers into the fray and leads them from the front with his impressive melee skills. Greymair is… a bit strange… and in more ways than one! He’s a medic that doesn't heal much, but he does finish off badly injured friends so they can be reanimated again, fresh and shiny and new! Lastly, Serif is Master of Arrows and a superb skeleton sharpshooter - his repeating crossbow is constantly putting out a hail of bolts, especially if his friends have been slain. Oh and that little guy is Sans, he makes a pretty good marksman too.

Angerboda

Angerboda is a frost giantess from the Norse Isles and she’s the only character so far that straddles the lines of Commonwealth and Shades. Angerboda will happily lend her brute strength to any Risen, Soldiers, Norse, or Giant troupes that require it!

Shady Bunch

This boxset is a spirit-y Shad-y sort of set… Marley is an excellent ally to any Spirit troupe, boosting other Spirits’ Arcane defences, speeding up their mobility, and bringing them back if any misfortunes befall them. Then Sen'Ara is the first Merfolk to bless Tauber on the tabletop and she will live up to their reputation - slow on land, but with one of the best lure effects in the game. Finally, Morag. Spirits are pretty fast, but she’s a Faunish Spirit! Deadly fast, with the ability to cut enemies’ health in half, Morag will be a great boon to her Leshavult and Shades allies.

Freaky Fugday

Psychopomps are strange spirits dragged out of the Deadlands - caught in the tide of magic returning others around them, they’re dragged to the Livelands almost at random. This boxset includes three of the larger and older ‘Pomp Spirits from the Deadlands. Tumbling and rolling, Jerry Heir has mobility, mobility, and more mobility to spare. He even brings his own snacks to watch his enemies as they trip over their own feet with Jerry’s own insidious curses! Abra Cadaverous is the ultimate Psychopomp summoner. He will happily wade into combat creating Psychopomps with all the 'spare parts' he finds, as well as healing and reanimating his friends with these... “spares”. Finally, do you wish your Psychompomps could do more? Then bring the guy with a Roar! Roary has plenty of boosts for his little friends and the ability to summon a few more too.

Charge of the Fright Brigade

Psychopomps… Psychopomps everywhere. This box contains the minis you need to represent the Psychopomps you summon in other boxsets. The standees and character stat cards for all the new releases will be available on our Downloads page too (at the time of writing we’ve not done this as yet but will as soon as we can), but we’re all minis fans here!

Jeremy, Lord of the Deep, is Sen'Ara’s partner in crime. Jeremy will make the fools who approach his watery domain rue the day they dared approached his magnificence! (He can do only a little damage.)

Courage and honour, Brave Sir Pidge will seek out the most glorious fights with the fanciest of nobles to prove his swordsmanship.

A loyal little familiar, Flay, Bearer of Knowledge, will happily follow his summoner around and boost their Arcane stat, possibly helping out other Shades too!

Lampy Darkson is a tiny lamp in the darkness who will light up your opponent’s models like a Grimblesnacht tree, helping them hit even the most evasive of targets!

Teacake of Torment - warm, crumbly, no soggy bottom - this delicious Psychopomp will help heal all your Shades by letting them take a nibble.

The Terrible Musician’s enthusiasm definitely outweighs his musical talent - play some tunes to your opponent to disorientate, confuse and generally hinder them.

Starter Set: Life and Death Struggle

‘Starter Set: Life and Death Struggle’ is a second two player set, in addition to our original ‘Starter Set: Dusk Till Dawn’. The new set includes Never Ending Knights and Angerboda on the Shades side, with the opposing side comprised of Hunting Horns and Jackalope for Leshavult. The miniatures and character cards for these four boxsets are included, alongside tokens for summoned Psychopomps and everything else you need to get started with Moonstone.

Lore

First of all, we recommend you read The Arising expansion book. It gives all of the narrative lead-up to the introduction of the Shades onto Tauber. There’s also a brief introduction into how they fit into the lore on our website (although there are spoilers for The Arising). The Doomsday Report supplement isn’t available on general sale, but we’re likely to make it available again in future.

The earlier history of Tauber is available as a video:

Playstyle and Overview

Joe wrote an overview of the Shades’ playstyle early on in the Kickstarter campaign, so please note some of the finer detail - particularly the stat cards - are likely to have changed. It still provides a solid introduction though, if you’re debating whether this is a troupe for you.

Also during the Kickstarter, Tom and Suzie gave an interview to explain a little more about Shades, their playstyle, and the inspiration behind it all:
